Iron Silhouette
The subjects of the paintings belonging to this collection arise from cuts of iron sheets. Sometimes the iron is painted, sometimes it is left bare, ready to transform naturally over time. Three-dimensional dynamism is accompanied by chromatic dynamism. The subjects change color as if aging: they become more and more orange over the years, full of ephelides, wrinkles and rust.

AQUARIUM
Size: 100 x 230 cm
Materials: iron, coffee powder, acrylic, spotlight.
Date: 2022
“Aquarium” captures the details of the seafloor through plays of perspective, materials and colors, transporting the viewer on a journey into the blue.
A light spreads from below, brightening the colors of the water against a shaded celestial background, traversed by reflections of iron transparencies, bright fish schools, corals, sand piles, seaweed and starfish.
At the center of the work, an intricate school of fish dances in harmony. A lobster emerges among the floating silhouettes, while other fish feed among the intertwined coral.
The three-dimensionality is accentuated by the grafts of iron silhouettes on the supporting slab, which create an effect of depth and movement. These float on the canvas, similar to Chinese shadows or puppets, puppets of marine life that give life to the backdrop in a surreal and poetic representation: a gentle and serene panorama that reinterprets the wonder before the beauty of nature and its hidden and intangible declinations.
jazz orchestra
Size: 128 x 243 cm
Materials: iron
Date: 2020
The scene emerges from a sheet of wrought iron. A single iron wire joins the characters and mixes the bent shapes in dance, amid the notes of a small jazz orchestra.
Altered characters, large noses, heads contracted in one place, animal snouts, ears, paws, crooked fingers…
The musicians blend in with the lines of the instruments they hold. Here is a violin, a trumpet, a wisp of smoke, two large rice maracas, the buttons of a sax, the strings of an electric guitar, the mechanics of a double bass. A trumpet solo makes way for the violin, the music changes, unites and mixes bodies, deforms iron and bends it into sinuous lines. To its energy is dedicated this iron canvas.
THE WAIT
Picture size: 85 x 60 cm / Glass plate size: 125 x 100 cm
Materials: iron, acrylic, coffee powder, spotlight
Date: 2023
“Waiting” is a painting consisting solely of painted iron and depicts the close-up of a female figure. Emphasis on the gaze, the details of the eyebrows and lips, is placed through selective coloring of certain parts of the composition and is exacerbated by the direction of the incorporated lighting.
Two large hands in the foreground support the subject’s face and frame its uncolored ironwork. The forehead is mottled with golden flecks, which run down and illuminate the slit of the eyes.
Outside light frames the center of the scene and, like a small sun, insists on the iron. The light blurs the contours of the face, burns out its details, and draws the viewer in from a distance, resulting in greater emphasis on the intensity of the dark blue gaze.
The powdery background is homogeneous and comes out delicately from the gaps created by the iron.
The density of the paint is enriched with the mixing of coffee.
The thin iron frame-also designed by the artist-continues in a sheet of stained glass.
SUMMER COLORS
Picture size: 85 x 60 cm / Glass plate size: 125 x 100 cm
Materials: iron, acrylic, coffee powder, spotlight
Date: 2023
In “Summer Colors,” Roberto Miglietta yields to a fully abstract dimension.
An iron plate is embedded in the canvas through four small nails and occupies the central part of the painting. Through the cut sections of the iron, the background emerges, confused and segmented: its boundary retreats in several places to give way to a lively and indefinite composition, with vague and decomposed subjects.
The thick grain of the paint, in some places mixed with coffee powder, thins out in the lower left through four series of cuts and scratches, also imitated by the drawing.
RED GLASSES
Picture size: 85 x 60 cm / Glass plate size: 125 x 100 cm
Materials: iron, acrylic, coffee powder, spotlight
Date: 2023
The half-bust of the woman depicted consists of an iron silhouette made to rust, parts of which were painted in acrylic: the glasses (red frames and cerulean glass), a segment of the nose (sand-colored) and the upper lip (bright red).
The polychrome background bisects the woman’s face, giving depth to the subject. The embossed iron silhouette dialogues with the background and is enriched with shades through the light embedded in the frame.
The thin iron frame-also designed by the artist-accompanies this series of smaller paintings by continuing in a sheet of stained glass. In this painting the chromatic accent of the glass beats red.
WALKING
Measures 191 x 147 cm
Materials: wood, iron, acrylic, spotlight
Date: 2022
The protagonist of this painting is a female figure, reproduced through wrought iron and olive wood. The wood – carved, painted in acrylic and then planed – gives shape to the bust, while iron is used for the rest of the subject’s body and clothing. Captured in an instant of movement, the woman seems to dive inside the painting. The dynamism is rendered especially by the detail of the skirt, which breaks the left wall of the work and invades the surrounding space. Created through the superimposition of two iron plates, the skirt seems to be the victim of a gust of wind or a particularly severe step: as if approaching the center of the painting causes turbulence.
Tanghera
Size: 110 x 80 cm
Materials: iron, acrylic, coffee powder
Date: 2021
The painting depicts a female figure with contours defined by a wire. The woman’s proportions are deliberately distorted: her hands and face merge with her arms and neck, creating a continuity of forms. The complexion is blurred with light brushstrokes.
A window in the background casts a diffuse light, creating an aura that embraces part of the female body and obscures vanishing points.
On the bistro table in the lower right corner are three flower vases, also blended with the background.
Toolbox
Size: 100 x 123 cm
Materials: iron, acrylic
Date: 2022
In this work, the artist depicts a toolbox made entirely of iron, a material that here takes on a central role, both structural and symbolic.
The use of a brightly colored palette invites the exploration of the possibility of interpreting and playing with materials, of including iron in an artist’s toolbox, along with brushes, paints and easels. A true statement of intent, a self-portrait of one’s way of creating and interpreting the world.
coffee break
Size: 223 x 71 cm
Materials: iron, acrylic, coffee powder
Date: 2021
This work, among the artist’s earliest, depicts a woman in a relaxed pose. Acrylic, iron and coffee powder mix to create a vivid, textural texture. The coffee powder, integrated into the background, adds a thick grain that contrasts with the protagonist’s slightly hinted figure. The bodice, made of iron, lends three-dimensionality and structure to the painting, recalling the fusion of natural and industrial materials typical of Miglietta’s style.
Chocolate eggs
Size: 128 x 190 cm
Materials: iron, acrylic, coffee powder, spotlight
Date: 2023
Inspired by the project of an anthropologist known for collecting drawings of children from around the world, Miglietta interpreted these childlike works into a series of paintings.
“Chocolate Eggs” is a painting that transforms a child’s drawing into a lively artistic representation. The two ovoid figures that dominate the canvas look like open eggs on a plate, with an egg white in light tones and a yolk represented by a brown iron wheel, blending with the background of the same color. The cocoa-colored nuances reveal the enigma: the pan eggs are made of chocolate!
Squares, rectangles, trapezoids and triangles: the negative sections of wrought iron reveal an underground movement. Here Miglietta reproduces an interweaving of lines and marks, made through the use of sac à poche. Hidden and in the background designs are revealed in relief.
It can be said that dynamism is rendered by the composition as a whole, reminiscent of a mechanical gear, an analog clock, soap bubbles, donuts in the middle of the sea, puddles in a city drain, lily pad leaves in a pond…
In “Chocolate Eggs,” Miglietta captures the viewer’s imagination with his playful and lively interpretation of childhood drawings, creating a work that invites one to go back in time and wonder again with what material the movement of things is oiled.
Signs
Size: 150 x 300 cm
Materials: iron, acrylic, jute
Date: 2024
Created from a wrought iron panel, this work transforms industrial waste into art. Empty spaces, originally considered to be manufacturing waste, become protagonists and expose a vibrant background of acrylic-painted jute. Abstract forms weave between the voids and solids, creating a dialogue between the solid and the light, between industry and craftsmanship.
Iron, with its inherent strength, encloses the forms, while the jute background adds texture and warmth, recreating a narrative of recycling and reinvention. The work reflects on the theme of utility and reuse, inviting the viewer to find beauty in the unexpected. A work that is a metaphor for the power of transformation, where emptiness is filled with meaning.
The children’s sailing ship
Size: 140 x 248 cm
Materials: Iron, acrylic, spotlight
Date: 2023
Inspired by the project of an anthropologist known for collecting drawings of children from around the world, Miglietta interpreted these childlike works into a series of paintings.
“The Children’s Sailing Ship” takes shape from a sheet of wrought iron: iron figures painted in acrylic emerge on a red-colored base. A light inserted at the bottom of the painting illuminates the shapes, creating a magical and playful atmosphere. The work evokes the purity and creativity of childhood, transforming simple curves into ancient symbols charged with meaning.
Homeless
Size: 60 x 42 cm
Materials: iron, acrylic
Date: 2020
A man’s face emerges from an iron plate. The roughness and natural rust of the material help define the details of the hair and hands. This texture is made even more complex by the tangle of acrylic applied with a sac à poche on the iron slab.
The background, a uniform khaki devoid of shading, cancels the visual references of everyday life, prompting the viewer to focus completely on the subject. In this composition, perceptual levels are reversed: first the color emerges, then the silhouette of the face, and finally the background. The work deliberately plays with the traditional order of vision, inviting the viewer to an immersive reading of a man’s profile.
fireflies
Material: iron, spotlight.
Date: 2023
The iron installation depicts a collection of fireflies that seem to float in the dark, suspended from the ceiling. Each firefly delicately captures the essential form of the insect, combining the solidity of iron with the lightness of design. Their silhouettes light up, creating a play of light that transforms the darkness into a vibrant, living space. The overall effect is not only visual, but also emotional: fireflies, symbols of hope and guidance, light up like tiny sparks suspended in time and space, offering the viewer an immersive and engaging experience.

SANT’ORONZO
Patron saint of the city of Lecce, reference of Baroque artists, source of city graces and miracles, St. Oronzo has been a symbol of the city for centuries. Although some theories suggest that he may be a fictional character, St. Oronzo plays a fundamental role in Lecce’s identity.
In 2019 the monumental statue of the saint (4.16 m) was removed from its usual location for restoration. The statue now stands in the atrium of Palazzo Carafa, while a copy has taken its place on the column in the city’s main square.
Roberto Miglietta has conceived a series of paintings inspired by the saint. Through color variations and multiple dimensions, these iron works painted in acrylic explore some aspects of man’s relationship with the sacred.
SANT’ORONZO No. 1
Size: 290 x 124 cm
Materials: iron, acrylic
The wrought-iron work captures green tones and through a studied color assonance evokes the city atmosphere during a storm.
The vivid green of the back plate, interrupted by a disturbing golden glow, interacts with the darker plate in the foreground. The left side of the painting houses a subtle embedded neon, which alters and intensifies each hue, contributing to a dynamic work that is sensitive to its surroundings.
SANT’ORONZO No. 2
Size: 140 x 70 cm
Materials: iron, acrylic
The painting exhibited here captures the hues of copper green and stands out against a dark background. The yellow-smeared turquoise of the foreground plate interacts with the milk-white acrylic of the one behind.
The hues of the background recall those of the night and replicate the outline of the statue illuminated by the light of downtown street lamps. Artificial light that caresses and flanks, like the saint who observes from above the teeming life of the nightclubs and blesses the hectic city walk.
The left side of the painting houses a subtle neon embedded, which alters and intensifies each hue, helping to create a dynamic work that is sensitive to its surroundings. The texture of the work is deliberately coarse: it is rendered through mixing color with coffee powder.
This painting, therefore, presents itself not only as an artistic interpretation of St. Oronzo, but also as a visual and tactile experience. The original matrix of the human relationship with the sacred comes primarily through direct experience: it is kneaded with light, colors, atmosphere and the awe of the night.
